ERV Update

For no particular reason, other than I am having some tile work done today, I give you the White Sox ERV figures, through 12 games of the season. Your stars and goats are pretty much as you would expect them.

What you should roughly take from this is that Jim Thome's offense has been so good (+11.46 runs) that he actually compensates for the poor performance of Scott Podsednik (-5.46 runs) and Brian Anderson (-6.00 runs). By "compensating", I mean that, altogether, Thome, Podsednik and Anderson produce about league-average offense (4.5 runs per game). As a team, the offense is +7 runs better than average.

By contrast, the pitching staff has been about as below average as the offense is above average (-9.23 ERV). It's relatively equally distributed - the starters as a whole are -6.36 ERV, while the relievers are at -2.87 ERV in fewer innings. Of course, without Jon Garland, the pitching staff would be on the positive side of the ledger.

There may be other things you can discover here; I leave that to you.
