Sox 13, Tigers 9


I'm not sure what the concept of a 13-run pool is. You get paid when your team scores 13 runs? Or, instead, you get paid when your team scores 0, 1, 2...through 13 runs? It is an idea that feels rooted in the 1950's, bowling leagues, and drive-in burger joints. Well, if you are in a 13-run pool, the White Sox (as well as the Mets and the Dodgers) just hit 13 runs. Congratulations.

Jim Thome continues to skorch the ball; he's having a Bonds-like open to the season. Through 9 games, he's plus 11 ERV. As yin to Thome's yan, Garland fell apart again today, driving his ERV down to -10. As good as Thome has been, Garland makes him a wash.

Everyone was in positive ERV territory on the hitting side today except for, of course, Podsednik and Anderson. The Detroit announcers have noticed just how terrible they both look at the plate.
