Sox 9, Kansas City 0
The result would have been the same had Kansas City forfeited. Instead of a forfeit, the Sox got another home run from Konerko, a home run from Crede, and a dominating performance from Contreras. Contreras looked so good, that he seemed like he was toying with the Royals. He is now 6-0 in his career against the former powerhouse of the A.L. West. Konerko broke his own single-game ERV record by .01. We'll see what the record is this year.
I did something stupid in the Sox's first game of the season against the Royals, the game they lost 11-7. When the Sox went up 5-0 in the first inning, I felt bad for Royals fans. I felt bad for how hopeless it must seem. But then the Royals came all the way back for a win, which really pissed me off. No more sympathy for other teams until they are out of Chicago (or the Sox are out of their town). Moreover, given the fact that the Royals have appeared in the playoffs more times during my lifetime than the Sox have, it's been arguably better to have been a Royals fan over the course of the last 35 years.
Without further ado, here's the ERV boxscore / scoresheet:
