White Sox 10, Cleveland 4
A new feature this year (hopefully) on Black Betsy is ERV scoring for the White Sox games. ERV scoring is based on the expected runs a team will score over a game, and how a particular player has contributed to the effort (or not). Thus, for example, Jim Thome's 2 run home run last night was worth 1.76 expected runs, because Tad Iguchi gets some credit for getting on base as well. Similarly, Konerko gets -.06 runs for his sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning, because it took the Sox from a situation in which they would expect to score 1.41 runs, gave them 1 run, and left them in a situation in which they would expect to score 0.35 runs. Overall, it's essentially a wash for the Sox - a hit would have been better, but they were only a little worse for the wear taking the run and giving up the out. (If you follow it, Win Probability Scoring would likely say that Konerko's sacrific fly was a much bigger positive).
So here is my first draft of an ERV boxscore:
